The Marcet Voice Studio understands acting as a whole, working on vocal techniques as an inseparable part of the actor’s creative process and their character construction. Here, voice is one of many parts (including thinking, breathing, movement, and ultimately the word) which are all intrinsically linked.

The Marcet Voice Studio understands acting as a whole, working on vocal techniques as an inseparable part of the actor’s creative process and their character construction.

Marcet Voice Studio works on vocal technique and the actor’s imagination at the same time, creating a bridge between the creative impulse and the spoken word. Our aim is for each word to be delivered with full meaning, emotion and creative freedom … and without restraint.

“The voice is physical, it is thought, movement and action. Separating the vocal technical work from the acting training limits our creative freedom as actors and reduces the expressive potential of our voice”

First, we look at fundamentals of voice technique, the key connection between word and emotion. Through the repetition of vocal and muscle exercises, new neuronal channels are generated, creating ‘implicit memory’.

Once the technique has been assimilated, we work by developing your imagination through play to integrate the technique with the creative impulse. We train you to become grounded and present; working from your core to connect with your natural voice.

Now the real work begins as we start to develop the company to serve the play. Listening to one another, looking at the detail of the text and the relationships between characters to deliver the best possible experience to the audience.

The Company Serving the Play

In our work, we apply postural and respiratory re-education techniques from Natura Respira – European School of Breathing. Exercises are inspired by our own methodology as well as from leading authorities including Cicely Berry, Patsy Rodenburg, Kristin Linklater, Russian Voice, Roy Hart, Coralina Colom and Gemma Reguant.

The Marcet Voice Studio provides the platform from which actors can progress and develop to their full potential, powerfully filling each of their character’s words with the appropriate nuances and meaning.
